Microsoft’s latest Intune updates give admins two practical changes to review: Apple volume-purchase apps can now use unlimited licenses, and a Windows 11, version 26H2 security baseline is available.

Apple app assignments get simpler

In the week of October 19, Intune added support for assigning apps with unlimited licenses from Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager. The change applies to iOS/iPadOS and macOS. It removes the need to manage a license quantity for eligible unlimited-license assignments, which can make broad app deployment easier to administer. Microsoft Learn

Who is affected

The Apple update matters to organizations using Apple’s volume-purchase program and Intune to assign apps. The baseline update matters to Windows 11 administrators who use Intune security baselines and are moving devices to version 26H2.

What to do

Review Apple app assignments and identify policies that can use unlimited licenses. For Windows 11, version 26H2, create a new baseline profile or update an existing profile after reviewing its setting changes and revised defaults. Existing baseline profiles do not update automatically. Microsoft notes that the Configure NetBIOS settings policy is not included because it is currently supported only on Windows Insider builds. Treat the new baseline as a review point, not an automatic replacement for your current configuration. Compare customizations, test with a pilot group, and confirm that the resulting settings match your organization’s security requirements before expanding the assignment. The baseline announcement also provides a detailed breakdown of the changes. Microsoft security baselines
